Renting a car in Morocco takes few documents, but every agency sets its own conditions. This guide brings together what to prepare before booking, what happens at the counter, and what to check to avoid surprises at return.
The documents to prepare
Three documents are enough in most cases:
- A valid driving licence. If your licence is not written in Latin script, an international driving permit is recommended as well.
- An identity document. The national ID card (CIN) for residents, a passport for visitors.
- A way to pay the deposit, depending on what the agency accepts.
Minimum age and licence seniority
There is no single rule: the minimum age and the number of years you must have held a licence are set by each agency, sometimes per car category. If it is not displayed, ask the agency before booking rather than at the counter.
The deposit is not the price
The deposit is an amount the agency holds or collects at pickup and returns at the end of the rental. It is not a rental payment. On DriveGo, its amount is shown on each car's page and appears below the total in the price breakdown, precisely because you get it back.
The deposit is returned according to the condition recorded at the return inspection. That is why the pickup inspection matters so much: it is the point of comparison.
Understanding the price before booking
The DriveGo price breakdown shows, line by line:
| Line | What it contains |
|---|---|
| Rental | The daily rate times the duration |
| Duration discount | The agency's weekly or monthly rate, if it has one |
| Insurance | The included basic cover, plus the option you chose, if any |
| Extras | Child seat, GPS, additional driver, depending on the agency |
| Taxes | The taxes the agency applies |
| Deposit | Shown separately, because it is refundable |
The price shown before booking is the price invoiced.
Pickup day
At pickup, an agency employee inspects the car with you in the app: a checklist, photos of the car and existing damage marked on a diagram. Take the time to look at the photos and point out a missed scratch before you leave. See also our guide to the pickup and return inspection.
Cancelling a booking
On DriveGo, you can cancel as long as the pickup has not started. You give a reason, the booking is cancelled and the amount already paid is shown as refundable by the agency.
Where to rent in Morocco
Each city with cars available right now has its own page, with real starting prices per category and the agencies present: for example car rental in Casablanca or in Marrakesh. Pages exist only for cities where cars are actually listed.
In short
- Prepare your licence, ID and a way to pay the deposit.
- Check the minimum age and licence seniority the agency requires.
- Read the price breakdown: the deposit is separate and comes back at the end.
- Look at the pickup inspection photos before you drive off.
